The Umbrella Arts Center’s newly constructed woodworking workshop is open for adult classes with experienced instructors covering a wide array of wood skills and project making, from learning fundamentals to developing fine woodcraft gifts. First up are two lathe wood-turning workshops with artist Palo Coleman:
Lathe Bottle Stopper Workshop
September 19, 6-9PM or December 19, 6-9PM
Discover the art of using a lathe to create stunning, mixed material bottle stoppers! This hands-on session will take you through the entire process, from selecting the perfect wood to finishing and assembling your own unique bottle stopper.
Lathe Pen Turning Workshop
September 26, 6-9PM or November 14, 6-9PM
In this immersive experience you’ll learn the entire process of creating a beautiful, hand-crafted wooden pen from start to finish.
Palo Coleman is a wood turner and builder who studied under Alan Hark, and specializes reviving historical tools and techniques and in reclaiming and salvaging wood that would otherwise go to waste. His work has been featured at the Fuller Craft Museum, the Los Angeles Craft Museum, and the Empty Spaces Project in Putnam, CT.
