“LET MY PEOPLE GO!”
Spirituals of the Underground Railroad
and the enslaved people’s quest for Freedom
During this year of focusing on important historical events that occurred in
Concord at the time of the Revolution, the MMMH Chorus has chosen a period in
19th century Concord history also of importance: the time of Abolition and the
Underground Railroad.
Come sing songs used by enslaved people in their escape to freedom and
hear about some of the brave and dedicated actions of Concordians such as the
Thoreau and Alcott families. Songs will include: Go Down, Moses; Follow the
Drinking Gourd; Swing Low, Sweet Chariot; Wade in the Water; and more.
